Occupational Therapy for Children, Teenagers & Young Adults
Support for school-aged children, teenagers and young adults, at our Albany Creek clinic or online, built around what the young person actually wants their days to look like.
This may be a good fit if…
Who we work with
We work with school-aged children (including Prep), teenagers and young adults. With children, we work closely with families, because the routines and expectations around a child matter as much as anything we do in a session. With teenagers and young adults, they lead: they set the goals and shape the direction, and parents are welcome to be involved, but the young person's autonomy stays central.
What we often focus on
- Routines at home and around school that lower daily friction
- Sensory needs, and what helps a young person regulate and recover
- Organisation, planning and getting started on things
- Managing energy and avoiding burnout, including school burnout
- Self-advocacy: understanding what you need and how to ask for it
- Building independence and working out a next step after school
Support for parents and carers
We also work with parents and carers on their own. Caring for a young person with additional needs can be deeply demanding, and it's reasonable to want support navigating that without burning out. You don't have to be attending as someone's parent to book; you can come for yourself.
Younger children: call us first
Our work starts at school age. If your child is younger than that, please call us before booking so we can talk it through and be honest about whether we're the right service for you. If we're not, we'd rather say so early than take a booking that won't help.
Common questions
What ages do you work with?
School-aged children (including Prep), teenagers and young adults, as well as adults. For children younger than school age, please call us before booking so we can talk about whether we're the right fit.
Do I need a referral or a diagnosis for my child?
No. You don't need a referral or a diagnosis to book. If your GP has set up a Chronic Disease Management plan and referred you, a Medicare rebate may be available, but it isn't required.
Will I be involved in my teenager's sessions?
You're welcome to be involved, and with younger children we work closely with families throughout. With teenagers and young adults, the young person leads and sets the goals. We'll work out together what involvement looks like in a way that respects their autonomy.
Can sessions happen online?
Yes. We offer secure online sessions as well as in-person appointments at our Albany Creek clinic, and plenty of families mix the two.
